ABOUT THE COACH
TRAINING WITH INTENTION.
PROGRESSING WITH PURPOSE.
I'm Lisa
Sport has been a huge part of my life. I competed as an athlete and still train with the goal of maintaining and developing my own athleticism. My experiences as an athlete and coach, along with working with people at different stages of their development, have shaped the way I approach training.
I don't believe there is one way to train. What works for one person won't necessarily work for another, and training needs to evolve as people, goals and circumstances change.
That's what interests me most about coaching — understanding the person in front of me and working out what they need to develop, progress and keep training well.
WHY I COACH DIFFERENTLY
Over the years, I've experienced both the highs and lows of training, including navigating injuries and post-viral fatigue. These experiences, along with my ongoing learning in running, strength and conditioning, have given me a deeper understanding of how the body responds to different training approaches.
Training needs to consider the person, not just the program. Young athletes need training that supports their physical development, builds a strong foundation and allows them to progress without simply treating them like smaller adults. Women can also have different considerations when it comes to training, from the menstrual cycle and hormonal changes through to the physical changes that occur across different stages of life.
I also believe athleticism is important throughout life. Being strong, fit, mobile, coordinated and capable isn't just for athletes. Developing these qualities helps us move well, stay active and meet the physical demands of life, whatever our age or stage.
For me, good coaching is about getting the training right — knowing when to push, when to hold back, how to manage training load and what qualities need to be developed at different times. That's what I enjoy about coaching: understanding what each person needs and adapting training to help them develop and progress.
